Seeking volunteers to supervise a ‘Move More’ Falls Prevention Workshop Series for over-65s.
Falls are a major danger for the elderly, so it’s vital to prevent as many as possible. This digital course, developed by ICareiMove, has proven incredibly effective.
We are honoured to be invited to make this course available at the Edward Hain Centre , and are SO excited about the possibility of offering it! However, whether we can, depends on us finding a few enthusiastic, committed volunteers to help out, in a supervisory role.
Could this be you???
What it Involves
The course is taught via recorded video and will run for 6 months (25 weeks). However with enough volunteers, your time would not be needed every week (see ‘SHARING THE WORK’ below)
Participants follow instructions given by the on-screen instructor, while 2 or 3 volunteers per session act in a supervisory health & safety role, keeping a close eye on everyone as the video plays through.

Training will be given to make sure that you are confident about managing the group as they follow along. You will also be responsible for setting up the screen and chairs. Each class is approximately an hour long, with extra time for socialising and clearing up. So about 1.5 to 2 hours per session.
Sharing the Work
6 months is a big commitment. But if enough volunteers sign up, it will be less than it sounds. For example, with 6 volunteers, you would average a class every other week. With 12 volunteers (3 per week for 4 weeks), once a month. So bear that in mind when considering this worthwhile and very rewarding role.
Best of all, consider that you will be helping vulnerable older folks to gain confidence and strength, maintain their independence by being able to keep living at home, and prevent falls when they go out. A big added bonus is in providing participants the opportunity to socialise with their class mates.

Testimonials
Here’s a testimonial from the icareimove.com website: “They… watched me get off the floor and couldn’t believe I did that at age 87. Game changer being on Move More.“
And another from a video you can see by clicking this link: “You make old age fun!”
Amazing! We hope some of you will be inspired to help with supervising this course.
