Celebratory gathering at the Edward Hain Centre
WHAT A WEEKEND! We talked, ate, sang, and grinned from ear to ear with all who came to join in, enjoy the celebrations, and generally brought the Edward Hain back to life! The joy was palpable, and is now part of its new incarnation as a Health & Wellbeing centre.
The day started with the ceremonial handing over of the original key to the hospital by Capt. Edward Hain’s youngest great-nephew, Philip (a special story – see separate post), followed by a lovely serenading by St. Ives Choir.
Artwork and music
Over the weekend, people bought a lot of the fabulous donated artwork, pottery and jewellery, and on Sunday the serenading continued with nonstop performances by St. Ives Festival musicians, as well as Hain descendant Tim Hain.
Thank you to everyone who donated art, food (Angela’s scones were amazing!), and turned up with smiles and goodwill. The icing on the cake is that, at a rough estimate, we reckon to have raised around £5,000 from artwork sales and donations.
Gratitude!
Massive thanks are also due to the tremendous hard work of the Friends of the Edward Hain Centre, our fundraising ‘family’ who roused volunteers in the previous weeks to help clean and garden.
Last but not least, we are very grateful to the National Lottery Fund and AWARDS FOR ALL whose generous donation towards our opening costs contributed to the refreshments and setting-up of the centre for this weekend.
