For the past six Novembers, shanty groups from all over England have descended on St. Ives to sing at the Shanty Shout Festival. Held in several venues in town, the festival has selected charities to receive donations from collection boxes at all locations. However this year brings a change: with the Edward Hain Centre now officially open, we have been selected as their permanent beneficiary!

On November 9th, the building most locals know simply as the Edward Hain opened its doors once more. Seven and a half years after the former hospital’s wards closed, and almost three years after it was shut for good, this was a triumph that many thought would never happen. What a day!

Exactly two months after our celebratory launch weekend, the Edward Hain Centre’s doors will soon open to its first clients. The motto on our website – ‘A New Dawn in Health and Wellbeing in St. Ives’ – is about to become reality.

It’s been over 6 weeks since our Grand Launch weekend to celebrate completing the purchase of the Edward Hain building. So some of you may be wondering: What’s been happening? Where’s the action?
Answer: Behind the scenes!

Last year’s ball at Tregenna Castle was one of our most successful events of 2022. This year’s version was also a winner, netting a fabulous £5759.75 for the Edward Hain Centre!

As usual, our community rocks! Starting with our Open Weekend launch, then Afternoon Tea at the Carbis Bay Hotel, and our Celebration Ball at Tregenna Castle, we raised the fabulous sum of £13,500!

Our online auction is back next month, complete with a gathering array of fabulous items from artwork to books, jewellery, vouchers from local businesses… you name it!

On this day in 1917, Sir Edward Hain, whose shipping company funded the purchase of the Edward Hain Memorial Hospital in the name of his son, died at the age of 65.
Never miss out on Liz’s tea and cakes…
