EHC’s 2025 MINCE PIE BAKE-OFF

Our Mince Pie Bake-Off was Back in mid-December for the 2nd year! The evening began with a speech by our Mayor, Johnnie Wells. EHC Chair Lynne Isaacs then thanked all the staff for another wonderful year of hard work, as well as our volunteers – not least of all for the fabulous decking of our EHC Halls!

Three other EHC trustees were also in evidence: Elizabeth Veal (having a laugh before the event EHC director Sharron Goldingay), Claire Sutcliffe (seen with Mr. Balloon, below right), and Michael Evamy.

There were several stalls for visitors to browse, including Sara the Florist with a wonderful wintry display. The Balloon Man was also on site to amuse the (grown) children – and of course Santa came too!

With each contestant being asked to enter 6 single-serving pies, with list of ingredients included (a Health and Safety requirement for us!), yumminess was abundant!

Once again, St Ives Mayor Johnnie Wells’s arm too hard was not hard to persuade in judging the contest. (If he had a mustache, we wager it would have been covered in tell-tale crumbs.)

After guarding this year’s Grand Prize of the EHC Carved Wooden Spoon very closely (see the cover photo), Teddy also became part of the prize, which was awarded for the 2nd year running to teen entrant Jazmine. And no surprise: just look at those amazing creations of hers!

Remaining individual pies (after judging) were generously donated to our Refreshments stall to contribute to the evening’s nosh.

Music for the evening was provided by popular locals, the St Erth Concert band, who braved the chill of the veranda to play trombones and trumpets and cornets and carols, and generally help make it an even more memorable evening for all!

A big THANK YOU to everyone who helped make the evening a fun, heartwarming event. As for EHC trustees, staff and volunteers, we are all excited for what 2026 will bring!
