St. Ives Phone Box: EHC Takeover!

Meet ‘Jazzy June”s official decorators of the famous St. Ives Phone Box on Tregenna Hill.

St. Ives boasts two red phone boxes: one near the Sloop; the other on Tregenna Hill. Also known as ‘The Booth’.’ Decorating it was initially the brain child of Mark Campbell. Mark adopted the phone box after it was taken out of service, and periodically re-decorated it for different events. Sadly, he died in 2023.

A Facebook Group, St Ives Telephone Box, took it over and now maintain it in Mark’s memory. They had the excellent idea of inviting local businesses to decorate it for a month at a time, and invited the EHC to dress it up for ‘Jazzy June.’

Info Galore

Many in St. Ives still don’t know about the Centre, so we wanted our decor to let people know about us. For the whole month, passers-by could enjoy the fun array of leaflets, hat, dolls and EHC-coloured bunting that adorned the phone box. On the back was a large poster showing a selection of our workshops and clinics. On the panes were call-outs for volunteers, and leaflets about volunteering and our services were available to take away.

In other words, info galore!

The hat, lovingly knitted by the incredibly talented Martine Hayward, had our ‘ECH’ lettering at the top in 3-D. The knitted dolls, also made by Martine, represented members of the EHC team. L-R: EHC senior office adminstrator Kerrie Cox; St. Ives Food Bank trustee and project co-ordinator Chris Wallis; and EHC manager Sharron.

At her feet is the real boss: her adorable pup Audrey. You can also see half a dozen volunteers, complete with their tiny EHC lanyards! And let’s not forget Teddy, presiding over them all…

Many thanks to The St. Ives Telephone Group, and in particular Robyn Calder, for inviting us to be part of this. We had a blast! We hope that everyone who stopped by to take a gander did, too.

Shown in the cover photo, L-R: EHC Manager, Sharron Goldingay; EHC Volunteer, Angie Evetts; EHC Chair, Lynne Isaacs; and EHC treasurer, Elizabeth Veal.
