7 generous individuals and why they volunteer for the EHC
Volunteering is a wonderful way to get involved with the community. It’s even said that it can be as beneficial to volunteers as to those they’re helping out. (Seriously!)
In case you missed our Facebook posts during #VolunteersWeek we thought we’d recap with a short summary of each of the individuals and groups who help us out – and what they say about volunteering at the Edward Hain Centre.
To read the full posts and find out more about each volunteer please check our Facebook page from June 2nd, 3rd and 5th.
More posts on our other volunteers to follow soon!

Angie Evetts
‘I would definitely recommend EH to anyone thinking about volunteering in a caring setting.’
A few of her favourite aspects? Meeting new people; feeling helpful and needed; learning new skills; and feeling more connected locally.

Catherine Curtis
‘I wanted to get involved with the local community and thought what better way than helping with the Edward Hain Centre when I saw all the work being done to restore this community asset.’
Volunteering favourites: selling bric-a-brac at events; Shanty Shout bucket shaker.

Catherine and Geoff Gaskell
‘It’s always a pleasure. . . when the residents from St Mary’s Haven visit. They are such a lovely and appreciative group. But I’m happy to help with whatever needs doing.’
Volunteering special: singalongs with our St. Mary’s Haven Care Home’s elderly, afternoon visitors.

David Bradley
‘I would strongly recommend volunteering to anyone, and to find some way of supporting the centre – whether it’s a bit of spare time or a donation, or supporting a raffle or auction that they are holding.’
Volunteering activities: general maintenance of the front car park and ‘anything that I can within the centre.’

Shelley Jackson
‘Volunteering… has been great for my mental health as every single person I have made friends with at EHC has been supportive…It’s wonderful being part of this team.’
Volunteering favourite: Helping out with events. Shelley also volunteers with the Edward Hain Friends, and St. Ives Food Bank.

Jane Rowson
‘I wanted to volunteer as I believe a health and wellness centre is of such importance to the Community and I am keen to be part of its development.’
Volunteering special: Reception. Like Shelley, Jane is also on the Friends of the Edward Hain committee.
