Friends of the EHC

The Friends charity is winding down

The Friends group was started in the mid-1960s ‘to perpetuate the memory of Edward Hain and to assist in the provision of health and well-being services for the residents of St Ives.’ (From the Charity Commission website.)

The ‘Friends’ funded many improvements for patients and staff at the former hospital, including a new X-ray machine and a Day Room. After the building’s purchase from the NHS in 2023, the current group continued to organise many fundraising events to help us with running costs, including the monthly payments on our £400,000 mortgage.

In July, they decided to end their fundraising for the Centre. We are extremely grateful for their years of hard work, and all they have raised for the EHC.

If anyone reading has been a Friends volunteer and would like to continue helping the EHC by volunteering for us, we would love to hear from you. There is still a lot to do! New volunteers are always welcome, too.

To sign up for volunteering with the Edward Hain Centre, please email Claire at community.volunteering@edwardhaincentre.org.uk

The 50/50 Club

The 5050 Club has been a brilliant and easy way to help bring in funds for the Centre while also giving members the chance to win a cash prize every month. However after the November draw, the Friends will no longer run this for us.

Therefore, following the November draw, there will be a pause in the 50/50 draws while the Centre takes over administration of the Club. Anyone wishing to continue their membership (which we hope you will!) will need to CANCEL your current standing order,  let the Centre know you wish to continue, and and set up a new Standing Order to go to the Centre instead of the Friends.

WHAT TO DO, STEP BY STEP:

1. After your October payment has been made (so you will still be eligible for the November draw) CANCEL your current standing order. It could go out up till the last few days of October (mine, for example, goes out on the 28th) – so be sure to make a reminder! You may even wish to cancel it early so that you don’t forget.

2. Next, so that we can contact you when the club restarts, please email us at centremanager@edwardhaincentre.org.uk with the subject ‘5050 Club’ confirming that you would like to be included when it starts again.

3. Once we have set up the logistics you will be emailed about arranging a new Direct Debit for the Edward Hain Centre 5050 Club.

Thank you to all 5050 members for your support so far. Our thanks also go to Vicky and Pat, who administered the club on behalf of The Friends. We look forward to reviving the Club as soon as we possibly can! Thank you for your understanding.

How You can Help

Here are some suggestions of things you can do to support the Centre

JOIN OUR 50/50 CLUB. This is a way to raise funds for the Centre whilst having a flutter yourself, with a chance to win in the club’s monthly draw.

PLEASE NOTE however that the Friends are handing over the running of this to the Centre at the end of the year, so while we welcome you joining now, you will need to change the Payee details in December in order to continue membership. So if you wish to wait until then to join, we understand!

To read more about it, and how to join, click ➡️ HERE

HOST YOUR OWN FUNDRAISING EVENT: Coffee morning. . . Dinner party. . . music performance . . . jumble sale . . . childrens’ picnic. . . crowdfunder . . . whatever takes your fancy!  Every bit raised, small or large, makes a difference.

DONATE: Donations are always welcome – and any amount, large or small, is always gratefully received. To donate to the EHC, please CLICK HERE or use the ‘Donate Now’ button at the top right of any other page.

Volunteer

If you have been a Friends volunteer and would like to continue your support of the Centre by helping out with us, we have lots of volunteering opportunities and would love to hear from you!

Click the pink to find out more. We have yet to add a section about helping out at events (e.g. for the Shanty Shout in November) but if you’d like to help out with a fun event, or even be part of an event organising team – we would love to hear from you.

Please Email Claire to let her know. Your help would be much appreciated at the Centre!

We are sad to say there will be no more Friends fundraising events. They have done a marvelous job. Now, we plan to bring you events organised by the EHC team.

WE THANK THE FRIENDS for ALL PAST FUNDRAISING EVENTS, INCLUDING THESE IN 2025

Volunteer

If you’d like more activity, connection and fun in your life, volunteering is a great way to meet new people and feel part of the community.

Volunteering also has proven health & wellbeing benefits of its own . . . So knowing that you’re making a difference can also make all the difference to you, too!

‘As well as being very satisfying work, volunteering has been great for my mental health. Every single person I have met at the EHC has been supportive . . . It’s wonderful being part of this team.’ ~ Shelley J.
To volunteer with us, email info@edwardhaincentre.org.uk (subject ‘Volunteering’) or call 01736 601233.

We look forward to hearing from you!
