Courtyard Cleanup at the EHC

The Centre’s outdoor decks get a thorough summer swabbing!

Yesterday, August 2nd, the sun shone on our Summer Courtyard Cleanup day at the EHC. A crew of 15 turned with elbows greased – mostly willingly, some, perhaps, with a little persuasion. . . But everyone ended up enjoying themselves (especially the teens with power washer!) and doing a great job.

The fifteen included two of the EHC’s regular team: our new Community Hub officer, Claire Jefferies, who organised the whole event and brought along husband Rob; and Centre Director Sharron Goldingay (who took the photos) with daughter Francesca (Fran) and college pals Lilah-Mae Byron, Ethan Barker and Maisie Larder. Penwith Ear Care‘s Beth Reyhani – who is also a recent addition to the EHC’s board of trustees – came too, with sons Josh and Elliot in tow.

Volunteers

Five of our regular volunteers also joined the cleanup. L-R, top/bottom: Angie Evetts (seen with awesome hat and worrisome-looking shears… watch out, weeds) and Shelley Jackson (getting ready to tackle brambles with fearsome red mitts), both adding glamour to the proceedings; Simon, whose surname hasn’t yet reached the EH media dept (sorry Simon!) but is known as Pollyanna the Pup’s dad; David Bradley, who supplied all the tools; new recruit Rob Jefferies; and Cath Curtis, who single handedly tackled the side pathway forest of ivy.

Food Bank supplies post-cleanup grub

Not beyond volunteering himself for a bit of sweeping, St. Ives Foodbank’s founder and project co-ordinator Chris Wallis also very kindly donated his BBQ grilling skills – and the food itself – to feed the worn-out masses. A tasty reward for a job well done!

Before / during / after

Pictures speak louder than words, so below are a few more to show how pristine the back looks now. At the end of the day, Claire and Rob took a huge pile of garden waste to the tip in their car.

We owe massive thanks to ALL of the above for their hard work, and adding to the fun! You all rock. And weed. . . and sweep. . .
