New spaces being created for community members’ use
The Edward Hain Centre‘s walled garden is being redesigned to create new spaces for our community members to use. These will include a peaceful, sheltered seating area in which to read, have a cuppa, and chat quietly with friends. There will also be two raised beds for growing veggies and herbs, and a tomato-growing area in the courtyard.
Produce grown will be available in a Community Fruit & Veg Larder. It will also be used to create seasonal fare in our Community Kitchen.

Ground work will begin in March and is expected to be finished by month’s end. We plan to celebrate the new spaces with a jolly garden party. . . so watch this space – as well as at the Centre and/or on our Facebook page – for the party date!
Invitation to Gardening
Once the walled garden is officially open for our visitors’ use (in other words, after our “garden warming” party 😁) we’ll be introducing something new at the centre: Free, ‘have-a-go’ gardening sessions with our lovely new team member, Mark Wilson. Mark will show you the basics of growing your own vegetables, and you’ll soon be able to see the fruits of your labour.

Times and frequency of these sessions will depend on numbers. If you’re keen to try your hand at gardening and growing produce, you can express your interest now. Email Claire at community.volunteering@edwardhaincentre.org.uk (subject: ‘Gardening’). There will be ample time to sign up later, too – just keep an eye out at the Centre or on Facebook.
With our thanks. . .

This exciting new venture has been made possible by a grant from the LHC Community Benefit Fund in association with Locality. We are extremely grateful to them both.
