Yoga for Bone Health

It’s been shown that over the age of 50 at least 50% of women and 1 in 5 men will have low bone density. Most are unaware of this and may remain unaffected; but without safe practices, they are more prone to fracture and complications which can seriously affect longevity and quality of life.

Justine Smith’s new series at the Centre, Yoga for Bone Health, focuses on the importance of building strong bones with balance and strengthening poses. Using resistance bands and adapted yoga poses, Justine will guide you to
🔸 greater body awareness
🔸 increase muscular strength to help with stability and decrease fracture risk
🔸 avoid falls through balance challenges and proprioceptive stimulus

She will also look at other factors that affect bone density such as diet and getting enough rest . . . But don’t panic, you will still get savasana at the end of the class! (That is, a lovely, relaxed lie-down, which helps you absorb what you’ve learned.)
